Tallahassee FL HVAC Company FAQs
A central AC unit typically has a lifespan of 15 to 20 years, but this can vary based on things like the unit's make and model, the quality of its installation, and how well it's maintained. High-quality units with proper care and regular maintenance can often reach the upper end of that range or even surpass it. However, as the unit ages, it may become less energy-efficient and require more frequent repairs. Ultimately, regular maintenance and timely replacement when necessary can help maximize the lifespan and performance of a central AC unit.
The best time to replace an AC in Tallahassee, FL, is typically during the cooler months, specifically in the late fall or winter. This is because demand for air conditioning services is lower during these seasons, which can lead to better availability from HVAC contractors and potentially lower installation costs. Additionally, replacing the AC before the hot and humid summer months ensures your home stays comfortable when you need it most. Planning ahead and scheduling the replacement during the off-peak season is generally recommended for convenience and cost-effectiveness.
In Tallahassee, FL, where air conditioning is frequently used due to the hot and humid climate, it's advisable to service your AC unit at least once a year. Ideally, scheduling maintenance before the peak cooling season in the spring ensures that your system is in top condition for the scorching summer months. However, some homeowners choose to service their AC units twice a year, including a checkup in the fall before the heating season begins. Regular maintenance can optimize energy efficiency, extend the unit's lifespan, and prevent costly breakdowns.
Regular HVAC maintenance in Tallahassee, FL, offers several benefits. It ensures your system runs efficiently, reducing energy costs and preventing unexpected breakdowns during peak usage. Maintenance helps identify and address minor issues before they become major problems, extending the lifespan of your equipment. It also improves indoor air quality by keeping filters and ducts clean, which is crucial in Tallahassee’s humid climate. Overall, regular maintenance provides consistent comfort and reliability, ensuring optimal performance year-round.

Excellent service
Came out and performed a one time tuneup on the Trane heat pump unit. I found that the system was not cooling and had low pressures at first. I gave an estimate to add 3 pounds of R-410A to the system and it was approved. I got the system cooling properly and performed a leak search. I found a leak on the top back right corner of the evaporator coil. I gave an estimate to replace the evaporator coil, but we will see how long the refrigerant lasts before moving forward with this repair, as it is very costly. I then cleared the drain line, checked the filter, and tested all electrical components. The system is cooling properly at this time. Thank you for your business.
Charged unit with 15lbs of 410A refrigerant after coil replacement. Thank you for your business.
Upon arrival, I found a customer system not cooling properly due to it being off on the primary safety float switch in the drain line. After flushing the drain line, the system came on and started cooling. I went ahead and checked the pressures to make sure it wasn’t low and freezing up. The pressures looked good. The system is operating properly at this time

Diag downstairs unit not cooling/ I found the unit was out of refrigerant, I added nitrogen to the system and found the accumulator is leaking. Due to the size of the leak I can not get the system to hold enough pressure to search for other leaks.
Diagnostic/ upstairs system not cooling. I found the condenser fan motor not starting up. I manually rotated the blade and it started but shut down after about 15 seconds, causing the system to shut off on high pressure. I verified proper voltage to the motor, indicating a failed motor. Installed new motor and tested system operations. I let the system run for 20 minutes and checked refrigerant pressures and amperages. System is cooling and operating properly at this time.
Diagnostic/ Upstairs system seems to be putting out humid lukewarm air and a squeaky sound on another condenser. I checked the upstairs Trane system and found that we had airflow but it was room temperature air at first. We went outside and I found that the fan motor for the system was running but the compressor was not. I heard the relay for the hard start click but the compressor did not come on. A minute later, it did and the system was cooling. I checked the hard start kit and found the terminals to be badly corroded and the capacitor itself was weak. I replaced the hard start kit and the compressor fired off correctly on the first try. I then noticed that the drain line on the system had come apart outside. I put the line and trap back together and attempted to pour water through the line. The line was clogged and the water came right back up. I unclogged the line with a nitrogen blast. The system is now cooling properly. For the other system, we traced the noise to the condenser
Diagnostic/ system not cooling. Verified the blower motor is operating properly. Went to the outdoor condensing unit and verified it’s running. Hooked up my gauges and found the system low on refrigerant. Performed an electronic leak search and found a leak at the indoor evaporator coil. I do strongly recommend a quote for system replacement based on age of the equipment which is 20 years old and refrigerant type which is R22. I will get your information sent to our comfort consultant for a quote on a new system.

Diagnostic/ System not cooling. Arrived and found the house at 77 degrees with the thermostat calling for 75 in cool mode. I found that the thermostat was putting out the right low voltage signal but it was not making it to the condenser, despite there being no drain cut-off switches. I ran new thermostat wire from the air handler junction, along the basement ceiling, out through a pre-existing hole in the storm door and into the condenser. I tested system operations and the system is cooling properly at this time. Thank you for your business. Tallahassee FL

04/30/2025- I arrived on site to preform the diagnostic and found a water stain along the corner of the kitchen/living room roof. I felt the area from inside the house and the area is dry, there were no wet or moist sections where the stain is. The only HVAC equipment that is run near that area is the refrigerant line set, unfortunately it is impossible for me to get to that section of attic to verify what happening. The only possible way to check what is happening in that section is to have a drywall company come out and cut open that section of roof. I have informed the customer that she would need to contact a drywall company in order for us to inspect the area that stain is in.
Diagnostic:system was dripping water onto the ceiling, I found the secondary pan for the unit serving the master bedroom to be full of water , I drained all the water from the pan and identified the leak to be coming from an air gap between the air handler’s cabinet and the supply plenum , this cold air from the plenum and the hot air from the attic caused a large amount of condensation. I sealed the plenum with foil tape however I recommend completely sealing over it with mastic duct sealant, I also recommend replacing the secondary safety switch due to the other one failing to turn the system off.
We were pleased that your technician detected a run capacitor that was close to failing. Very polite and personable also.
Lee help get the job done right at a reasonable cost with little hassle. Other than finding the electrician he took care of everything including educating me about the project.

Bryce D, is a very nice young man. He’s very knowledgeable and shared with me what he did to maintain my system in good working condition.
Lee? Lee? Who the hell is Lee? Did some imposter install our A/C? Is it even a real A/C? Did the check make it back to the companyOMG!!! OKI dont like mark the box reviewsthat must be clear by now and Ill go to the stars and play the game but its not as much fun as a real review. First of all, my impression of Lee is that you guys dont need a review of him. You already know he is the consummate representative for Bensons. He is professional, personable, informed, proficient and, from all appearances, technically qualified and adept at the whole process from estimate to finished project. He was probably born with that smile, maybe not the teeth, but certainly the smile. Were talking about a technician working away and moving around the house while simultaneously softly singing to the house music playing. And dont turn the music off when you leave the houseplease leave it on. And he had a couple of techs with him that were also personable, communicative and efficient andwellnice guys. So, a very pleasant way to blow through nearly $6k on A/C
I have been a customer of Benson's for many years. Everyone I have dealt with at Benson's goes beyond to satisfy!! I cannot say enough about this company!!!
