In the United States, the average cost of repairing an air conditioner is $336. The usual range is $163-$520, with repairs costing as much as $1100 at the high end. Certain sorts of repairs will also be more expensive than the usual fix. Replacing a house air compressor, for example, can cost between $1350 and $1800, while replacing an evaporator coil can cost between $650 and $1200. As a general rule, if your system is 15 years or more, it may be in your best interest to think about replacement rather than a repair.
An outside air conditioning system should cost between $1,500 and $4,000 on average. However, the outdoor and indoor system components are meant to be installed together. When your inside and outside units are different makes and models, they won’t work well together, experiencing significant efficiency problems and potentially suffering frequent breakdowns. In fact, most quality HVAC contractors won’t replace an outdoor AC unit without replacing the indoor unit as well, so be sure to budget for a full system replacement.
Here are some techniques you may adopt to enhance indoor air quality and, hopefully, reduce allergy symptoms.
- Vacuuming the carpets and area rugs at least once or twice a week using a HEPA-filtered vacuum cleaner.
- Choosing hard-surface flooring over wall-to-wall carpeting may also help to reduce allergies in the house.
- Cleaning bedding, draperies and other objects that draw allergies on a regular basis—especially if you have pets.
- Clearing clutter is important since it gathers and retains dust that might create a response.
- Change your air filters once a month. Dust and other airborne pollutants can be caught by electrostatic filters rather than being recirculated throughout your house.
- Purchase an air purifier. If you have an allergy to indoor allergens and are unable to control the cause of the problem.
Have your air ducts cleaned. This will eliminate any stored dust. This isn't always necessary, but it can assist in some situations. The Environmental Protection Agency provides guidance on this choice on their website.

Benson's tech's always call ahead to let you know they are coming and show up pretty promptly around the time they say they will be there. They are pretty no nonsense and get busy with their duties on our bi-annual winter and spring check ups. On average it takes them about 1 1/2 hours to knock out the job and I believe after watching them a few times they are pretty meticulous and thorough in the service provided. Good group of folks

Today I worked on the downstairs master bedroom system. I also worked on the upstairs bedroom system. Mr. Kevin call in requesting service that the system were not cooling. I began diagnostics by checking the pressures on the upstairs system it was low on refrigerant I preformed a leak search and found that the evaporator coil has a leak. I added 3lbs of refrigerant and was able to get it cooling properly until we get the new coil installed. I then moved to the master bedroom unit and found it to have a bad capacitor. I have the system back up with a turbo 200 I will need to order a capacitor when I order the evaporator coil for the upstairs unit. Refrigerant for today’s repair. I also have enclosed the estimate for the repair of the new coil and capacitor replacement. Thank you for your business today. Thomasville Georgia. .
