Tallahassee FL HVAC Company FAQs
A central AC unit typically has a lifespan of 15 to 20 years, but this can vary based on things like the unit's make and model, the quality of its installation, and how well it's maintained. High-quality units with proper care and regular maintenance can often reach the upper end of that range or even surpass it. However, as the unit ages, it may become less energy-efficient and require more frequent repairs. Ultimately, regular maintenance and timely replacement when necessary can help maximize the lifespan and performance of a central AC unit.
The best time to replace an AC in Tallahassee, FL, is typically during the cooler months, specifically in the late fall or winter. This is because demand for air conditioning services is lower during these seasons, which can lead to better availability from HVAC contractors and potentially lower installation costs. Additionally, replacing the AC before the hot and humid summer months ensures your home stays comfortable when you need it most. Planning ahead and scheduling the replacement during the off-peak season is generally recommended for convenience and cost-effectiveness.
In Tallahassee, FL, where air conditioning is frequently used due to the hot and humid climate, it's advisable to service your AC unit at least once a year. Ideally, scheduling maintenance before the peak cooling season in the spring ensures that your system is in top condition for the scorching summer months. However, some homeowners choose to service their AC units twice a year, including a checkup in the fall before the heating season begins. Regular maintenance can optimize energy efficiency, extend the unit's lifespan, and prevent costly breakdowns.
Regular HVAC maintenance in Tallahassee, FL, offers several benefits. It ensures your system runs efficiently, reducing energy costs and preventing unexpected breakdowns during peak usage. Maintenance helps identify and address minor issues before they become major problems, extending the lifespan of your equipment. It also improves indoor air quality by keeping filters and ducts clean, which is crucial in Tallahassee’s humid climate. Overall, regular maintenance provides consistent comfort and reliability, ensuring optimal performance year-round.

Job Locations and Reviews
I have been a Benson's customer for over 20 years and this is my second HVAC system with them. As I have come to expect, Benson's provide excellent service when my unit recently shut down on a Sunday afternoon and Phillip Rutledge, my technician, was here within 45 minutes of my call. He did a wonderful job. A new fan assembly had to be ordered and he tracked it through the ordering process. He and his sidekick even did the fan installation during a rain storm so I would not have to go another night without AC. Job well done!
Returned and replaced the fan motor, fan blade, dual run capacitor and the contactor. Fired system off and let it run for 15 minutes while monitoring system operations. System is cooling properly at this time.
06/27/2025- I ordered the replacement parts from carrier, they are not in stock and will be shipped to carrier either Monday or Tuesday. Once the parts are delivered we can call to schedule the replacement job with the customer. 07/02/2025- I arrived on site to replace the faulty TXV and filter drier. This units warranty has expired. After installation of the new equipment I preformed a nitrogen pressure test and leak search, and have confirmed that the unit holds pressure with no leaks. I then pulled the unit in a vacuum below 500 microns before charging the unit back up with a factory charge of 410A refrigerant. All pressure and temperatures are within spec and the unit is getting good heat transfer, however I was unable to get the temperature split since the homeowner wasn’t home. We will have to rescheduled this maintenance for another time when someone is home to let us in. However the unit is working properly at the time of repairs.
