Tallahassee FL HVAC Company FAQs

How long should a central AC unit last in Tallahassee, FL?

A central AC unit typically has a lifespan of 15 to 20 years, but this can vary based on things like the unit's make and model, the quality of its installation, and how well it's maintained. High-quality units with proper care and regular maintenance can often reach the upper end of that range or even surpass it. However, as the unit ages, it may become less energy-efficient and require more frequent repairs. Ultimately, regular maintenance and timely replacement when necessary can help maximize the lifespan and performance of a central AC unit.

What's the best time of the year to replace an AC in Tallahassee, FL?

The best time to replace an AC in Tallahassee, FL, is typically during the cooler months, specifically in the late fall or winter. This is because demand for air conditioning services is lower during these seasons, which can lead to better availability from HVAC contractors and potentially lower installation costs. Additionally, replacing the AC before the hot and humid summer months ensures your home stays comfortable when you need it most. Planning ahead and scheduling the replacement during the off-peak season is generally recommended for convenience and cost-effectiveness.

How often should an AC unit be serviced in Tallahassee, FL?

In Tallahassee, FL, where air conditioning is frequently used due to the hot and humid climate, it's advisable to service your AC unit at least once a year. Ideally, scheduling maintenance before the peak cooling season in the spring ensures that your system is in top condition for the scorching summer months. However, some homeowners choose to service their AC units twice a year, including a checkup in the fall before the heating season begins. Regular maintenance can optimize energy efficiency, extend the unit's lifespan, and prevent costly breakdowns.

What are the benefits of regular HVAC maintenance in Tallahassee, FL?

Regular HVAC maintenance in Tallahassee, FL, offers several benefits. It ensures your system runs efficiently, reducing energy costs and preventing unexpected breakdowns during peak usage. Maintenance helps identify and address minor issues before they become major problems, extending the lifespan of your equipment. It also improves indoor air quality by keeping filters and ducts clean, which is crucial in Tallahassee’s humid climate. Overall, regular maintenance provides consistent comfort and reliability, ensuring optimal performance year-round.

12/02/2025- I arrived on site today and found the furnace tripped out on high limit safety due to poor airflow that was caused by all filters in the house being dirty. I removed all dirty air filters and replaced the 20x30x1 filter since that’s all the homeowner had on hand. The customer has signed and approved of an estimate for a case of 12x12x1 and 16x16x1 air filters to replace what I had to remove to get the unit working. The customer has also approved of an estimate to clean the condenser coils since they are extremely dirty as well. I have ordered the filters and will clean the condenser coils when I come to deliver the air filters. I tested the unit after removing the dirty air filters and verified that the unit is working properly and without issue at this time. We will call and schedule a time for filter delivery/installation and the condenser coils since they cleaning with the customer.

12/02/2025- I arrived on site to replace the faulty power head for the TACO valve and wire it in correctly. After the installation and rewiring of the new power head the unit worked properly in each mode of operation. The timeline of events for this call go as followed. In early September one of our technicians found that the valve itself was faulty and allowing continuous flow through it despite the old power head(orange power head) working properly, so he referred the customer to contact a plumber to install the valve. However the orange power head and valve assembly are both outdated and no longer sold so the plumber had to install the newer style of TACO valve and power head(green power head). The plumber installed the valve properly but wired in the power head incorrectly by wiring the common wire into the end switch and the correct wire into the common terminal causing it not to function as well as causing the power head itself to go bad. I was then called out here and I discove

Casey was such a polite and knowledgeable representative of Bensons HVAC. He worked quickly to get my AC working again and provided reassurance that all of the ice would melt. I am very appreciative of his professionalism! Thank you!!! TSBingham
